Safety
Adults only
Vicinity is for people 18 and older. Every account confirms date of birth and age at signup. Profiles reported as belonging to a minor are prioritized for review and removed.
Photo screening
Every uploaded photo is processed and screened automatically before anyone else can see it. Photos that need a closer look are held for review by our moderation team, and prohibited content is reported to the appropriate authorities.
Location privacy
Your location is rounded to a grid and offset before it is stored. Distances are calculated on our servers, and other members only see a range such as "under 1 mile." Exact coordinates are never sent to other people.
Control what you share
You can hide your distance range, choose exactly who you see and who sees you, and remove photos at any time.
Blocking
Blocking someone hides you from each other immediately, everywhere in the app, including existing conversations.
Reporting
Report a profile from the profile itself. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team, who can remove content, suspend accounts, or permanently remove people from Vicinity.
Meeting in person
- Meet in a public place and tell a friend where you will be.
- Arrange your own transportation.
- Keep conversations in the app until you are comfortable sharing contact details.
- If something feels wrong, leave, and report the profile.
- In an emergency, contact local emergency services.
